DHAKA, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's current account deficit has shrunk to over half a billion U.S. dollars from July to March, the latest official data showed.

According to the latest Bangladesh Bank (BB) data, the current account balance showed a deficit of 659 million dollars in the first three quarters of the current fiscal year 2024-25 against a deficit of 4,398 million dollars in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Remittances, however, helped Bangladesh by cushioning the impact of the current account deficit.

According to the central bank's data, remittances increased 27.6 percent year-on-year to 21.78 billion dollars in the July-March period of the current fiscal year.
