DHAKA, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Armed Forces Day commemorating the martyrdom of military personnel in Bangladesh's 1971 Liberation War was observed on Tuesday with due pomp and honor.
Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid glowing tributes to the Liberation War martyrs who laid down their lives for the country's independence in 1971.
Shahabuddin paid homage by placing a wreath at the altar of Shikha Anirban (eternal flame) here in the country's capital in the morning and stood in solemn silence for a while to pay respect to the martyrs.
Also, Hasina placed a wreath before the flame to honor the nation's martyrs.
A contingent of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force presented a salute on the occasion.
Shahabuddin and Hasina have issued messages greeting members of the armed forces on the occasion.
Various programs have also been chalked out at different army garrisons, naval ships, installations and bases of the air force across the country.
