DHAKA, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh Tuesday reported 21 more deaths and 1,166 new COVID-19 cases, a senior health ministry official told a television media briefing.
Prof. Nasima Sultana, additional director general of Directorate General of Health Services under the Ministry of Health, said the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bangladesh has reached 36,751.
With 21 new deaths, she said, the toll due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country reached 522 on Tuesday.
According to the official, 5,407 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.
A day earlier, Bangladesh recorded the highest 1,975 cases in a 24-hour period.
During the last 24 hours, the official said, 245 more patients were released from hospitals and clinics, bringing the number of recovered patients in the country to 7,579.
