Huge drug hauls made in Saudi Arabia

Bangladesh News.Net
Sunday 18th July, 2010

A massive crackdown on narcotics in Saudi Arabia has also netted large amounts of banned alcohol.

In the first six months of this year, police and customs officers have seized mainly synthetic drugs and alcohol.

The customs department has recorded seizures of amphetamine pills, hashish, heroin and opium.

The six-month haul also included 44,000 bottles of alcohol, consumption of which is strictly forbidden in Saudi Arabia under Islamic law.

In June, police arrested 125 people in connection with drug trafficking.

They will face death penalty if convicted.
