Thailand makes investment in 'green' vehicles

Amid soaring oil prices and concerns about greenhouse gas emissions, the Thai government has encouraged automakers to produce fuel-efficient cars.
Tax breaks for automakers and car buyers were unveiled last year.
Thailand has been worried the global market for their trucks could weaken as consumers turn to more fuel-efficient vehicles.
Thailand is the world's biggest maker of light pickups, churning out 900,000 per year.
As a means of halting any future decline in sales, incentives have been created to encourage automakers to set up local production bases for cars and trucks that meet the most stringent European emission standards.
The vehicles will run on fuel with a 20 percent ethanol component.
